It is made from wheat flour, salt and water to form a sponge like product that has no taste of its own. However, it absorbs flavours very easily because of its porous constitution, and is great when added to soups or dishes that are saucy.
It is normally sold in cans or sealed bags in a salted liquid for preservation.
